Phone call prank, popularly known as crank call is a prank which is done over phone. Phone call pranks have been a daunting problem with people of all the age groups. Whether be it a teenager, or an oldie, almost everyone is a victim of phone call prank at least once in their lifetime.

Most of the times, its unknown people who derive from such things but sometimes its not just an unknown person, but very close pals derive lot of fun by playing phone call prank to their friends.

There are several intentions for which a phone call prank can be played upon someone. One of the several reasons can be to take out enmity from someone whom you don't like. In that case the victim of the phone crank call is in a traumatic state because of the ongoing mental disturbance which arises from such pursuits.

The other scenario, which is when the crank caller does it with a close buddy and that too just for fun. The intent of the called is not to harm the receiver but to have some fun in the process.

Besides this, prank calls can be a threat for a government as well. There have been several cases reported where a prank call was made to a government agencies just to tamper with the government mechanism. Like in one of the cases the accused called up the national defense agency of a country and proclaimed that there is an ongoing planning of bomb blast at several locations in the city. Since, it is very difficult to identify the caller, it becomes very difficult for the government agencies to take serious steps against such elements.

Since, sometimes prank calls are of such grave matters that the government could do nothing but believe the caller and act upon the details rendered by the prank phone caller.

There are some preventive measures that can be taken by individuals to spot such cases and save themselves from a possible mental agony. One such way can be achieved by installing an id caller system over the land line connections. Since the cellular phones have this facility, the caller can be traced over a mobile phone but it gets very difficult for a user to spot a prank caller when the number of the caller is not made available on the basic land line phone.

The youngsters who get involved in such activities should have to understand the severity of such acts and they should restrain themselves from making a hoax call. Since things like this can prove to be utterly disturbing for elderly people and people suffering with hypertension.

Thus a practice of good and healthy telephonic conversations should be encouraged to avoid any bad experience over phone.
